Tips for finding SAU-academic paper datasets

For students who first come to Thailand to study, where to find data is a “problem” in an unfamiliar academic environment.

Nowadays, online searching is a more efficient way to find literature resources, mainly downloaded from various databases. At the same time, the library of the University of Southeast Asia in Thailand has purchased a very complete database, which provides students who are interested in academic research with a convenient way to search for data.

The following is an introduction to the general knowledge of Thai students studying in Thailand and the characteristics and skills of using Scopus database, Thailand Journal Citation Index Center (TCI) and Peking University Core Journals~.

Master's graduation requirements: masters must publish a tci, the first area of the journal is not limited, the second area needs to be in the school recognized directory;

Or attend an international academic conference to explain the core content of the dissertation at the conference, which can be joined online. (The University of Southeast Asia organizes this international academic conference every year)

02. Rules for thesis preparation

Thesis Topic Selection: In the opening stage of the thesis, make sure that the research direction is innovative, pioneering and important, and must be related to the field of specialization.

Review of Literature Citation: Review the existing literature to understand the current status of the research field and the trend of the current stage.

Determine the research methodology: Select the appropriate research methodology to ensure the validity and reliability of the research.

Selection of journal: Select the appropriate journal according to the research direction and the level of the paper.

Standardized format: Follow the journal's submission guidelines, including citation format, paper length, and graphical specifications.

Peer review: Most academic journals conduct a peer review process in which reviewers suggest changes or decide whether to accept the paper.

Copyright and publication: Once the paper is accepted after review, you need to follow the journal's copyright policy and prepare it for publication.

Coverage

Scopus: is an international multidisciplinary citation database covering journals worldwide.

Peking University Core: focuses on Chinese domestic academic journals.

TCI: focuses on academic journals in Thailand.

Purpose and Function

Scopus: provides extensive academic literature search and citation analysis functions.

Peking University Core and TCI: mainly aim to assess and improve the quality of academic journals in their respective countries.

International Influence

Scopus: has extensive influence in the global academic community.

Peking University Core and TCI: influence is mainly limited to their respective countries.

Detailed Database Information

TCI Database

TCI (Thai Journal Citation Index Center) database has the most comprehensive list of journals in Thailand, and also indicates the level and field of each journal. The higher the level of the journal, the higher the quality of the paper, the higher the chance of rejection, and the higher the revision requirements, so for master's degree students, Tier 2 may be just right.

The TCI database is divided into 4 zones based on the quality rating of the journal, from high to low, Zone 1, Zone 2, Zone 3, and Zone N/A (to be determined). The publication requirements for PhDs studying in Thailand are generally Zone 1, and those for Masters are generally Zone 2, depending on the rating criteria of each institution.

As of November 30, 2023, there are 1,362 journals included in the TCI database, of which 11 journals published by Royal Xuan Suan Thani University are included in TCI, all of which are zone 2 journals.

Scopus Database

Scopus, a database launched online in November 2004 by publisher Elsevier, is the largest database of abstracts and citations from the peer-reviewed literature (scientific journals, books, and conference proceedings).

The Scopus database provides a comprehensive overview of global research results in 240 subject areas in the sciences, technology, medicine, social sciences, arts, and humanities, as well as intelligent tools for tracking, analyzing, and visualizing research. (As of July 20, 2023, scopus has included 44,737 scholarly journals).

Scopus Database Key Features:

- Wide coverage. For many engineering, humanities, social sciences and other disciplines, the inclusion of Scopus is unique;

- Contains more literature journals published in non-English speaking countries, with 952 high-quality journals from China;

- Includes 17 million+ perfect scholars' files, in addition to the complete literature record of each scholar, it contains the precise research direction of each scholar's topic information; supports one-key exclusion of self-citation, generates the author's literature output analysis and citation report.

- Rich Indicators: In addition to the traditional literature indicators, Scopus also sets out a separate page of evaluation indicators for each piece of literature, including PlumX social impact and other diversified indicators.

- Includes 94,000 institutional profiles (universities, research institutes, enterprises, etc.), which is the only source of data on research performance for QS and THE World University Rankings/Subject Rankings.
